What does a buffalo, a cow, and the first female chief of the Cherokee nation, who also has one of best surnames ever, have in common? Wilma Mankiller.
So let me ask, are you a buffalo? Or a cow?
In Oprah Magazine, she is quoted saying,
“Be the Buffalo. Wilma Mankiller, the first female principal chief of the Cherokee nation, once told me how the cow runs away from the storm while the buffalo charges directly towards it, and gets through the storm much quicker than the cow.” (Donna Brazile, Oprah Magazine, June 2010 page 38)
So which are you? When faced with a daunting challenge, do you confront it straight on, like the buffalo? Or do you run away from it, like the cow?
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. ~ Marianne Williamson
